FunimationCon 2020 is one of the first anime conventions to offer a completely free, all-virtual experience during the 2020 shutdowns. In-person anime conventions (affectionately called Cons) are a cornerstone of the fan experience, and when these were no longer a safe option, fans longed for that sense of connection to their community and the content they love.

For New York Comic Con 2021 our intent was to make anime fans (especially subscribers) feel special; extending a warm invitation for mainstream future fans by creating a sense of belonging.
Welcoming our fans and providing them a place to be where anime comes to life meant serving fans across the spectrum of how they celebrate their fandom… from talking about their favorite anime (including geeking out with anime fan celebs), cosplaying, buying merchandise, and being part of the fan community, all in one place.
